Anatomy / A closer look
Six perspectives, from the skin
to the deep plane.

The visible surface
The outer envelope. Texture, elasticity, and contour reveal only the beginning of the face’s underlying architecture.

Volume & contour
Beneath the skin, regional fat compartments and fine connective-tissue septa contribute to facial shape and movement.

The fibromuscular envelope
The superficial musculoaponeurotic system connects facial expression with the support of the overlying soft tissues.

Points of support
Fibrous attachments connect mobile soft tissues to deeper structures. Their arrangement varies across the face.

A deeper perspective
Distinct deep fat compartments contribute to facial volume beneath the superficial tissue envelope.

Where the layers relate
An interface beneath the SMAS, where spaces and retaining attachments shape how the overlying tissues move together.
